OVERVIEW
Understanding and implementing The Joint Commission’s (TJC) Medication Management standards continue to be a challenge for some organizations. While much emphasis is placed on these standards for continued safety, they are commonly scored as noncompliant during hospital surveys. During this webinar, participants will learn about TJC medication management standards as well as medication-related National Patient Safety Goals that prove to be the most difficult for hospitals and healthcare systems from a current Joint Commission hospital surveyor who is a pharmacist. Frequent challenges with these standards will be presented, along with realistic examples of how to achieve compliance with troublesome elements of performance items.
 

TARGET OR INTENDED AUDIENCE
The target audience for this activity includes Hospital and Health System Leadership, Quality and Risk Management Leaders, Physician, Pharmacy, and Nursing Leaders, Patient and Medication Safety Officers, Frontline pharmacists, nurses, technicians, and Medical Staff
 

OBJECTIVES
At the completion of this acitivity, the participant will be able to:

  • List three of the most problematic medication management-related standards and National Patient Safety Goals by organizations surveyed in 2016-17
  • Identify the most common reasons why organizations are scored noncompliant on medication management standards.
  • Note the changes and any new interpretation of the requirements related to the medication-related Joint Commission standards.
  • Describe three areas of potential Joint Commission focus in the future.
  • Cite three areas of focus on medication management by surveyors during a Joint Commission surveys for 2017.
