Vitamins, Minerals, and Supplements:
Patient Self-Care and the Role of Store Brands
Activity Description
The overall goal of this activity is to understand the
role of store brand vitamins, minerals, and supplement
products (VMS) in delivering effective patient self-care
in the retail environment.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, pharmacists will be able
to:

Interpret and respond to changing patient/client
attitudes towards health care and wellness, specifically
in the context of store-brand VMS products.
-
Counsel patients/clients about store-brand VMS products
that can be supportive of a personal wellness and health
care regimen.
-
Identify and suggest VMS products that are appropriate
for use with specific health conditions, pharmaceutical
regimens, or lifestyle health risks.

Demonstrate the ability to counsel patients/clients
about the quality, efficacy, and attributes of
store-brand VMS products.
-
Explain the economic implications of store-brand VMS
products for both the patient, the pharmacy, and the
pharmacist's employer.
