Faculty & Disclosures Barry W. Sigal, MD, FCCP Barry W. Sigal is a Pulmonologist/Intensivist in
Winston-Salem, NC. He is the Medical Director of
Cardiopulmonary Services and the Intensive Care Units at
Forsyth Medical Center, a 900 bed tertiary care community
facility. He has been involved in the development of
numerous multidisciplinary protocols in the ICU ranging from
glucose management to extubation and sepsis medications.
Karen Sands MSN, CCRN, APRN-BC Karen Sands has worked in the critical care environment for the past 21 years. She received her BSN from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 1988. In 2000, she received her MSN and Adult Nurse Practitioner degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Functioning as an advanced practice nurse over the past 9 years, she has worked with the ICU intensivists to cover a 30-bed medical/surgical ICU at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston Salem, NC. She is actively involved in the SCCM and AACN. In 2008 she opened her own business, Critical Care
Learning Curves: Novice to Expert, that provides education
to all disciplines on topics related to the critical care
arena. Being chosen as one of the Great100 nurses in North
Carolina was the highlight for 2008. Currently, she is
serving on the SCCM Glycemic Management Task force whose
purpose is to develop the guidelines for tight glycemic
control in the critically ill patient. At the Annual SCCM
Congress in 2009, she was elected to serve on the SCCM
Nursing Section Steering Committee. |
