Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is an inherited chronic disease caused by a gene defect. It is estimated to occur in about 1 in every 3500 children born in the United States. This complex disease can affect the lungs, the digestive system, and other organs resulting in a high morbidity and mortality. CF can also affect the pharmacokinetics of many drugs and this needs to be considered when prescribing medications to CF patients. CF has no known cure, but treatments are available to help modify the disease process. The modules of this program will provide information on the disease and treatments for the CF patient as well as address other important challenges and considerations in CF patients. Module 1 will provide an overview of CF disease. The metabolism differences to consider in CF patients will also be addressed.
