Activity Description

In specialty pharmacy, appropriately billing Medicare Part B plays an integral role in providing patients with their medications at the best and most accurate cost for them. This activity will explain the basic requirements for billing claims to Medicare Part B and how to stay compliant with the most current Medicare guidelines. It will go over required components of a prescription, what is needed for the proof of delivery of medications and supplies, and which drugs are covered by Medicare Part B.

Learning Objectives

The target audience for this activity includes pharmacy technicians. Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • List the requirements for a SWO (Standard Written Order).
  • List the covered classes of medications.
  • Explain the proof of delivery requirements.
  • Explain the refill requirements.
  • Identify elements of a Medicare audit.
